UAE participates in fifth Syria Top Donors Group meeting in Kuwait

KUWAIT 2nd September 2015 (WAM) -- Dr. Maytha bint Salem Al Shamsi Minister of State has said that the UAE is one of the first countries to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the Syrian crisis pointing out that the moves follow the directives of the UAE's wise leadership led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In her speech while chairing the UAE's delegation to the Fifth Syria Top Donors Group meeting which took place in Kuwait yesterday Dr. Al Shamsi said that the UAE had pledged during the donor conferences in 2013 2014 and 2015 to provide assistance amounting to US$460 million pointing out that the UAE has spent since the beginning of the crisis in 2012 US$538 million officially exceeding its pledges.

She stressed that the UAE will continue with its commitment to support Syrian refugees in their humanitarian crisis and will contribute to mitigating the impact of the crisis on them.

The UAE delegation to the meeting included Rahma Hussein Al Za'abi UAE Ambassador to the State of Kuwait and Rashid Salem Al Shamsi Director of the Aid Coordination Department at the Ministry of International Cooperation and Development MICAD.
