UAE- 6 factories shops fined for selling illegal steel fish traps

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The Ministry of Environment and Water has fined six factories and shops for selling fishing equipment called 'gargoor' (a steel mesh fish trap) in Ajman and Sharjah.

The firms were fined during an inspection carried out by the ministry to ensure that trade outlets are complying with federal laws related to protection of environment.

Saif Mohammed Al Shara Assistant Undersecretary for Fishing at the ministry said the outlets were fined for selling fishing tools that are illegal; and manufacturing fishing nets that are not in accordance with the law.

He said the ministry is keen on developing laws to achieve its strategic objectives of promoting environmental sustainability and protection of aquatic living resources.
