Blair in short visit to Egypt

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) After his second visit to Egypt in as many months, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair left the country Monday after holding talks with government officials, according to reports on the state-run Al-Ahram news site.

Details on the visit remain scarce, although some local media outlets reported that Blair had met with government officials to discuss issues pertinent to the region.

Last July, the former prime minister was forced to deny reports appearing in the British media that he had taken on the role of formal economic advisor to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. A statement released by his office at that time called the reports "nonsense" and dismissed any suggestions that he or any of his organisations had any commercial interests in Egypt.

Before announcing his resignation in May of this year, Blair was the special representative of the Quartet on the Middle East € a group of nations seeking an amiable solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
