Saudi- Importance of unity
(MENAFN- Arab News) This is with reference to the article 'Ending Al-Maliki's legacy' (Aug. 26) by Osama Al-Sharif. Without putting an end to Iraqi former Premier Nuri Al-Maliki's sectarian policies the war-torn country can never pull itself out of the current abyss.
Iraq is on the verge of disintegration and Iraqis could prevent this catastrophe only by forging unity among their ranks. What are the basic needs of an ordinary individual? The answer is simple: Food shelter and clothing and the peace of mind to provide for his/her family. We should also blame ourselves for our current problems because we allow certain individuals to drive a wedge between us and divide us along sectarian or ethnic lines. We should say no to such divisive politics.
The sectarian policies of Al-Maliki only paved way for the emergence of Daesh which is wreaking havoc on the entire region particularly Iraq and Syria. Had Al-Maliki focused on national reconstruction without marginalizing the Sunni population of Iraq the situation would have been very different. It is not just the story of Iraq the entire Muslim world is faced with a similar situation.
We tend to fight over petty issues. We are a people divided along sectarian and ethnic lines. We call ourselves Muslims and still continue to flout all the laws of Shariah. Rafay Khan Jubail
