Credit to private sector up QR14.2bn


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Qatar banks' assets (and liabilities) have increased by QR42.1bn, up 4.1 percent to QR1.06 trillion in June 2015 from QR1.02 trillion recorded in the previous month.

Total domestic loans and credit facilities provided by banks to the local private sector increased about QR14.2bn to QR385.6bn, in addition to loans and facilities worth QR12.2bn for the non-banking financial sector.

The month also witnessed an increase in government and public sector deposits by about QR6.2bn to reach QR228.1bn.

The banks' investments in securities outside Qatar increased QR0.2bn to reach QR22.2bn. The breakdown shows QR19bn in bonds and Sukuk; and QR3.2bn in shares and others, 'The Group Security' noted in its detailed reading of Qatar banks' consolidated balance sheet published by the Qatar Central Bank(QCB).

Local banks' assets with banks outside Qatar increased QR8.1bn to reach QR78.6bn and loan to foreign parties increased QR1.5bn to QR 74.9bn.

In contrast, foreign banks liabilities on banks in Qatar increased QR12.4bn to hit QR140.9bn, while the indebtedness of local banks to foreign parties in form of bonds and certificates of deposit settled at the level of QR39.1bn.

Total domestic private sector deposits in local banks by the end of April 2015, increased about QR12.3bn to touch QR337.9bn in addition to deposits worth QR10.1bn by non-banking financial institutions.

The size of consumer loans touched QR114.2bn, up QR9.3bn and the credit facility to the real estate sector reached QR99.5bn, an increase of QR2bn. Credit for contractors reached QR35bn, up QR0.2bn. The service sector witnessed QR59.8bn credit, up QR1.7bn from the previous month. Deposits or assets of banks with other local banks increased QR10.7bn to reach QR38.8bn and liabilities of local banks from other banks in Qatar increased QR11bn to reach QR38.1bn.

Government and public sector deposits increased about QR2.6bn to reach the level of QR228.1bn. The breakdown shows the Government deposits touched QR56.5bn, Government institutions' deposit QR131.5bn. On the other hand, government and the public sector total loans increased about QR7.3bn to reach QR 223.2bn.

The balance of Qatar Government bonds and bills with banks decreased about QR1.6bn to QR101.7bn. The total domestic public debt - government, government institutions, quasi-governmental institutions, bills and bonds - increased about QR5.7bn to reach the level of QR324.9bn as shown in the table.

The combined deposits of banks at Qatar Central Bank increased by about QR8.3bn to QR49.3bn in June.
