According to dpa the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has reportedly set up checkpoints in the region. The bus driver apparently tried to avoid one such checkpoint near the town of Erzurum when he was killed.
Meanwhile six militants were killed in clashes with police in the eastern town of Varto while others were arrested and weapons seized Anadolu reported.
A ceasefire between the government and PKK collapsed last month after holding for more than two years. Most PKK attacks since have focused on security forces.
