Hosni a role model for young Omanis: Fanja Club chairman

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Fanja Club chairman Saif al Sumri has said that the signing of a one-year deal with the national team's star striker Imad al Hosni will help the club get closer to the youth in the sultanate.

Speaking to Muscat Daily after inking the deal and unveiling Hosni at the Markaz al Bahja shopping mall recently Sumri said 'We are delighted with the signing of Imad who brings in a lot of experience and is a role model for young Omanis. I am sure his presence on and off the field will attract the youth towards the club.'

Hosni has been known for his calm demeanour and his ability to strike a chord with his fans young and old has made him a popular footballer in the country.

The 31 year old striker has become one of six national team players with Fanja and his presence has led to Sumri believe that the eight-time domestic league winner not only has the potential to achieve a season treble but it can also excel at the AFC Cup in the coming season.

'We have got a strong team and I hope it deliver results this season. We hope to achieve a treble beginning with the Super Cup that will be played against Al Arouba on August 21' the Fanja boss said.

The nine-time His Majesty's Cup winner will aim to wrest back the Omantel Professional League (OPL) and HM's Cup titles from Al Arouba which won both the crowns last year.

Hosni said he was 'delighted to be a Fanja player' and admitted that he had been keen to sign for the club following a lacklustre season with Saham.

'Fanja has a large fan following and I have often played for clubs that have a large fan base. I hope I can deliver and help the club reach its pinnacle in Oman. I can't wait for the new season to start' he said.

And at the signing ceremony Fanja fans flocked to get up close with the popular footballer and take selfies with him. Many of them who showed up for Hosni's unveiling had arrived from as far away as Jaalan and Buraimi.

Sumri also welcomed the support of Al Bahja Group of Companies which has signed a separate deal with the club to have Hosni as an ambassador of its group. Prashant Dutt a senior representative from the group was present on the occasion. 'To be associated with a top-class footballer like Imad who has brought laurels for the country is a matter of pride for our group' said Dutt.
