Pakistan Embassy expands facility for MR passports
(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: The expanded facility for machine readable passports (MRPs) at the Embassy of Pakistan will help the mission process over 1200 applications on daily basis. The new setup was inaugurated on Tuesday.
Saudi Arabia hosts the largest Pakistan community in the world. There are over two million Pakistanis in the Kingdom. It was the community's persistent and genuine demand for enhancing the capacity of MRP system to cope with the rising need of the new passports the embassy stated.
Prior to the expansion work the embassy was processing around 700 MRP applications on daily basis. With the expansion the number of passports will be doubled. To facilitate the community members and save them from long hours of waiting the embassy has been fixing appointments for MRP seekers through the Internet at its website www.pakembassyksa.com and on mobile No. 0543238919. Members of the community have been advised to seek appointments before coming for the MRP.
Speaking on the occasion Pakistani Ambassador Manzoor ul Haq said that the expansion of MRP facility is a gift from the government of Pakistan to the community on the occasion of the country's Independence Day which is 10 days away.
Present at the opening of the expanded facility were notables of the community and the visitors coming to the embassy for consular services. The inauguration was done by a Pakistan national Shahid Abdul Rahi who was the oldest applicant visiting the embassy for MRP on the day. He said he witnessed the creation of Pakistan on Aug. 14 1947 and is in Saudi Arabia since 1978.
