Palestine- Outrage over toddler's killing


(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: A terror attack by Jewish extremists in the West Bank village of Duma that killed a Palestinian infant was widely condemned by world leaders on Friday.
The 18-month-old boy's parents and four-year-old brother were seriously injured in the attack in Duma.
The OIC's General Secretariat condemned in the strongest terms the horrendous crime by extremist settlers.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani said that Israel the occupying power should be held fully responsible and accountable for the consequences of these terrorist acts perpetrated by extremist settlers in occupied Palestine.
The administration of President Barack Obama condemned the attack branding it a 'vicious terrorist' act that must be punished.
In a statement the State Department welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's condemnation of the attack and called for Israeli authorities to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the child's killing saying the absence of a peace process and Israel's illegal settlement policy had sparked violent extremism.
Ban urged all parties to ensure that tension does not escalate further.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas described the attack as a war crime.
He also said it would be part of the Palestinians' case against Israel at the International Criminal Court.
Palestinian official Saeb Erekat blamed Israel for the incident calling it a 'brutal assassination.'
Settlements that Israel has built on territory captured in 1967 are considered illegal under international law.
The sleeping toddler was burned to death when the assailants set fire to two Palestinian homes.
Several hundred people marched at the child's funeral procession calling for retribution.
