Iran foreign minister to visit Qatar
(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will visit Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq today, the ISNA press agency said, following a landmark nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.
The accord, struck on July 14, imposes certain controls on Iran's nuclear programme in exchange for a lifting of crippling economic sanctions and is expected to form the basis of discussions during Zarif's trip.
Gulf countries led by Saudi Arabia have voiced concern over the deal they say could bolster their Shia-dominated adversary accused of interfering in countries such as Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
Zarif is also expected to visit the holy Shia town of Najaf in Iraq tomorrow before heading to Baghdad.
He will return to Tehran next week to host talks with EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini before meeting his French counterpart Laurent Fabius.
