Al Khalaf threatens legal action against tweeters

(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: Mody Al-Khalaf former assistant attache for cultural and social affairs at the Saudi Embassy in Washington said she is taking legal action against several users on the social media website Twitter.
She said those tweeting exploited the news about her end of service at the embassy. Using fake Twitter handles they accused her of financial and moral impropriety. The tweets alleged that she was relieved of her duties because she opened a restaurant and made Saudi scholarship students work there.
They also accused her of other violations relating to the budgets of student clubs that were directly managed by her as she was responsible for cultural and social affairs while she was at the embassy.
Al-Khalaf said she was not relieved. According to her she was delegated to work in the cultural affairs section for four years and her employment was first extended by one year and then for another year.
She was told beforehand that she would not be required thereafter. She said she is proud of her social and cultural role. She said the accusations against her are mere 'empty words.'
Al-Khalaf owns a restaurant called Aldeerah near her workplace. She said that when she opened her restaurant she wasn't violating any law.
Al-Khalaf who has a PhD in applied linguistics was responsible for organizing graduation ceremonies the embassy holds every year. She supervised 260 Saudi student clubs in the United States.
