Tourist arrivals in South Korea plunge on MERS fears

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The number of foreign visitors to South Korea dropped more than 40 per cent in June, year on year, as Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) sowed fear among travellers, a news
report said Tuesday, according to dpa.

Just over 750,000 foreigners arrived in June, compared to more than
1.2 million a year ago, according to Yonhap News Agency, citing the
state-run Korea tourism Organization (KTO).

MERS, which has killed 36 people and made nearly 200 ill in South
Korea since an outbreak was reported in May, was considered the
primary reason for the drop in arrivals, the KTO said.
