Macedonia sets early 2016 elections after EU brokers end to standoff


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Government and opposition leaders in Macedonia agreed Wednesday to move elections up to April, in an EU-brokered deal toend a political gridlock that has lasted more than a year.

The opposition has boycotted the legislature since last year amid allegations that the ruling party stole the election.

Tensions mounted in February when opposition members began leaking illegally recorded conversations between Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and other senior officials.
