Australia stocks higher at close of trade S&P/ASX 200 up 0.67%


(MENAFN- FxPro) Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrials, Energy and Telecoms Services sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.67%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Kathmandu Holdings Ltd (ASX:KMD), which rose 25.60% or 0.320 points to trade at 1.570 at the close. Meanwhile, Bluescope Steel Ltd (ASX:BSL) added 8.30% or 0.230 points to end at 3.000 and Arrium Ltd (ASX:ARI) was up 8.00% or 0.010 points to 0.135 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Slater&Gordon Ltd (ASX:SGH), which fell 5.82% or 0.220 points to trade at 3.560 at the close. Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX:NST) declined 5.15% or 0.120 points to end at 2.210 and Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) was down 4.56% or 0.055 points to 1.150.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 562 to 553 and 211 ended unchanged.

Shares in Slater&Gordon Ltd (ASX:SGH) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.82% or 0.220 to 3.560.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.67% to 19.903.

Gold for August delivery was down 0.26% or 3.10 to $1175.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.18% or 0.10 to hit $58.23 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.10% or 0.07 to trade at $62.08 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.09% to 0.7686, while AUD/JPY fell 0.25% to 93.86.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.28% at 95.34.
