(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least 12 policemen were killed in an armed clash with insurgents in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, said officials on Thursday.

Provincial Police chief, Brig. Gen. Nabi Jan Malakhel told reporters that the militants stormed a police check post in the Zanbeli locality of Grishk district, which sparked heavy gun battle. He confirmed that at least 12 policemen were killed in the clash.

Security officials confirmed that all policemen manning the check post were killed in the attack and the militants took all arms and ammunitions with them. Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claiming the responsibility of the attack, said that check post commander Mohammad Wali was among the 12 killed, said media reports.
