Saudi- Man recruits his dad for fighting in Syria
(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: A recent court ruling revealed an unexpected twist as people are used to hearing of fathers who influence their children and push them into going to conflict zones to join fighting groups. The ruling unveiled an unprecedented action where a young Saudi man made arrangements for his father to join the fighting in Syria.
The indictment against the young Saudi who was sentenced to four years in prison and banned from travel for another four years included drafting and recruiting other members online to join terrorist groups using modern technology to facilitate travel arrangements for those wishing to go and fight in Syria and coordinating with them for the same purpose.
Two social media sites Twitter and Skype emerged as important tools to recruit fighters and then connect them with another coordinator located in Turkey to facilitate their entrance into Syria.
The court convicted the young man who worked with a group of three other people of coordinating with the second and third defendants to smuggle four persons into Yemen for suspicious reasons. He was also convicted of facilitating his father's travel to Syria.
