Palestinian President Meets French Foreign Minister


(MENAFN- QNA) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met here today with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said in a joint press conference with his French counterpart that talks during the meeting dealt with relations between the two sides and means of developing them, noting that President Abbas appreciated the continued French attention to providing ideas related to the revitalization of the stalled peace process due to Israel's rejection to honour its commitments.

Al-Maliki added that President Abbas was briefed by Fabius on the French ideas, stressing commitment to the ideas that would revive the peace process and start negotiations to end the occupation and establish the independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza strip on the basis of the two-state solution.

For his part, the French official said his current tour aimed at presenting French ideas seeking peace and peace and security, describing the Palestinian-Israeli issue as of vital importance " so we want to seek the security of Israel and in the meantime we have to give the Palestinians the right to establish their independent state."
