Islamabad — Taking strong exception to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s remarks about strikes in Karachi Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has demanded of the prime minister to tender an apology and “be careful full in choosing words”.

“Mr. Sharif should rather resign for having insulted the people of Karachi” Altaf said while addressing a telephonic news conference.

Earlier in the day the prime minister had said a protest strike is called in Karachi ‘even when a fly dies’ asking Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad to try to reduce the number of such strikes.

Altaf said he expects his workers would not forget the word “fly”. “I would have resigned from my post had I been governor of Sindh” he said.

“But then the poor governor has no idea whether his name is on the Exit Control List” Altaf sais in his late night address by telephone. “I am trying to figure out names of those who complained to prime minister” Alta said adding that he was not opposed to Sharif.

He refused to comment on cases he has been facing in London saying he would not make any comment as the matter was sub judice.
