Marijuana seized at Hamad Airport in Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The General Customs Authority (GCA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 8kg of marijuana into Qatar through the Hamad International Airport (HIA).

The illicit drug was spotted in the luggage of an Asian traveller, who was coming on a transit trip from a GCC country to mislead the authorities. However, the customs officers at HIA became suspecious of his behaviour and decided to conduct a thorough manual search of his luggage, where marijuana was found wrapped in many layers of packaging materials.

GAC president Ahmed bin Ali al-Muhannadi honoured the officer who discovered the drug. Another officer who made a drug seizure earlier, was also feted.

HIA Customs acting director Ajab Mansur al-Qahtani lauded the alert officer and said that co-operation among customs officers is the reason behind such achievements.
