(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) At least 26 people, including a six-member family, were killed in Afghanistan on Monday in two separate attacks, security officials said.

A car bomb killed at least six members of the same family in the country's southern province Kandahar late Monday.

Kandahar governorate spokesperson Samim Hepelvak said that a roadside bomb was detonated when the family's vehicle was passing the Shah Wali Kot's district road located in Kandahar's north.

Hepelvak blamed Taliban for the attack. Taliban has yet to comment.

Separately, the militant group launched early Monday an extensive armed assault against Afghan police officers and soldiers in Helmand province's northern district of Nawzad.

Local sources claimed that at least 20 security officials, including police and troops, were killed.

Taliban militants have intensified their attacks in city centers and on Afghan security forces' outposts as part of their spring offensive which began in April.
