GCC national jailed for fatally running over expatriate girl


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a GCC national to six months in jail for fatally running over a Pakistani girl with his vehicle and escaping, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.

The defendant was also ordered to pay a fine of QR20,000 for the charges of unintentional killing and reckless driving, and a fine of QR20,000 for fleeing the scene of the accident. He also has to pay, in collaboration with insurance company, QR200,000 as blood money for the legal heirs of the victim.

The defendant ran over the girl while she was playing in front of her house. An Indian driver who happened to be present on the site and driving the same type of vehicle which run over the girl, was accused of the incident.

Upon further investigation, an eyewitness gave his testimony about the accident and the Indian motorist was absolved of the crime while the police managed to nab the actual defendant, who was eventually convicted by the court.
