Training for lawyers begins at Qatar International Court

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Qatar International Court, the Ministry of Justice of Qatar and the US-based BARBRI, the world's leading legal education institution, have partnered to develop and deliver professional legal training in Qatar.

The first programme, which is being delivered at the Qatar International Court from May 17 to 21, was opened by Justice Dr Hassan al-Sayed, Qatar International Court chief executive Faisal Rashid al-Sahouti, manager of the Legal and Judicial Studies Centre at the Ministry of Justice Maryam Yousif Arab, and BARBRI managing director Sarah Hutchinson.

The first programme "Litigating in the Qatar International Court" will enable lawyers to practise at the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Civil and Commercial court with world-class advocacy skills.

"We are very happy about conducting this course in collaboration with the Legal and Judicial Studies Centre in order to train lawyers in advocacy, problem solving and

negotiation," al-Sayed said.

He also indicated that the course will introduce the court litigation procedures through practical classroom exercises, mock trials, and role plays.

BARBRI is an established institution that has been providing professional legal training for over 40 years and focuses on qualifying young lawyers to enter the legal profession. 80% of US attorneys are alumni of BARBRI.

"We are all confident that the participants in the course will be equipped with essential legal skills to litigate before the QFC Civil and Commercial Court," he added.

By knowing the procedural rules of the court, this will enable Qatari lawyers to carry out their professional responsibilities much easier and bring huge benefits to the legal profession in Qatar, Arab said, adding the centre is looking forward through the experience of these courses to gaining the most out of the international academics.
