Kuwait Cabinet touts Camp David meeting


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The cabinet on Monday lauded the positive and fruitful outcomes of the recent summit held between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the US in Camp David.

During the GCC-US summit, the US reiterated support for security and stability in the Gulf region, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said in a press statement following a routine cabinet meeting held at Kuwait International Airport under chairmanship of His Highness the Premier Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

The cabinet then welcomed the visit of Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and his accompanying delegation, who arrived here earlier today on a two-day official visit to Kuwait, the minister said.

The visit is mainly intended to promote and develop existing distinguished cooperative relations between Kuwait and Brunei in various fields for the common interest of both sides.

Locally, the cabinet instructed the Environment Public Authority (EPA) to take necessary steps to put in place an environment protection fund which is purposed to apply national criteria to polluting facilities.

Furthermore, a recommendation on a national strategic document on the fight against money laundering and finance of terrorism and of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) was approved during the cabinet meeting.

The ministers also gave the thumbs up a draft decree on amendments to the 1979 Decree on the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and referred it to His Highness the Amir for final approval.

On a grilling motion filed by MP Abdulhameed Dashti against First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the cabinet said it is the constitutional right of every MP to file an interpellation motion, while appreciating the positive role played by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.

The ministers also voiced support for Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and his efforts to push forward reforms and development and to achieve more national accomplishments.
