Qatar welcomes Vatican's move to recognise Palestine
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The State of Qatar has welcomed the Vatican's decision to recognise the state of Palestine as part of a new treaty between the two sides provides for the switch of diplomatic relations from the Palestine Liberation Organisation to the state of Palestine.
Qatar's foreign ministry, in a statement, expressed appreciation at this positive move and described it as a step towards ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
It stressed that this recognion, which is added to the 136 countries that recognised the state of Palestine, is a message for all nations that support the two-state solution to translate their position from words into deeds.
The State of Qatar also expressed in the statement its hope that this will contribute to supporting the peace efforts as well as the legitimate rights.
