Pakistani troops kill 11 suspected bandits

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Pakistani commandos rescued seven comrades from kidnappers after a 36-hour gunfight that left 11 of the suspects dead, dpa quoted an official as saying Tuesday.

Gunmen had seized the troops in a pre-dawn raid Sunday on a check
post in Rahim Yar Khan, a remote town of the central province of
Punjab, local police chief Sohail Zafar said.

They held their hostages in a nearby forest and demanded the release
of accomplices held in jails around the province, Zafar said.

The captives were rescued late Monday by troops of the paramilitary
Rangers force and elite police, backed by helicopter gunships.
