Kuwait- Move To Cut Expats Hailed

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh said the recommendations of the government committee in charge of addressing the lopsided population issue have been forwarded to the relevant committees at the Council of Ministers for review and deliberation, reports Al-Rai daily. The minister disclosed the ministerial committees will then submit their reports to the council for proper action.

Commenting on the issue, Chairperson of the Interior and Defense Committee in the National Assembly MP Abdullah Al- Mayouf pointed out the need to present recommendations concerning the population imbalance to the committee, since the issue is related to national security. He asserted any lapses emanating from such a situation will reflect on the security of the country.

On the other hand, MP Abdullah Al- Tamimi commended the government for its efforts in reducing the number of expatriate workers. He said the move is in line with a draft bill he submitted in the previous and present legislative terms. He argued the bill is necessary since the number of expatriates is now double the population of citizens. He asserted such a situation puts pressure on general services provided by the government, adding "I have submitted a copy of the draft bill to the social affairs and labor minister."
