Police College chief holds rights talks with UN team


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Police College Director General Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah al-Muhana al-Marri met a UN delegation, including Dr Mona Rishmawi, Chief of the Rule of Law, Equality and Non-Discrimination Branch in the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, and Dr Obaid Ahmed Obaid, United Nations Centre Director for training and documentation of human rights in southwest Asia and the Arab region.

Director of the Interior Ministry's Human Rights Department Brigadier Abdullah Saqr al-Mohannadi along with a number of academics at the Police College attended the meeting which dealt with aspects of the partnership between the relevant UN organisations and the Police College and the Human Rights Department. The meeting discussed prospects for co-operation in training on the application of human rights concepts.

It also saw an introductory presentation on the Police College and another on the strategy and achievements of the Human Rights Department.

Brigadier al-Marri spoke of the importance of maintaining human rights and consolidating the vision of Qatari leadership for the protection of freedoms and preservation of the rights embodied in Qatar National Vision 2030 by including legal articles and texts concerning human rights in the college's curriculum.

He pointed out that the Police College had signed several memoranda for co-operation with prestigious international institutions such as Manchester Metropolitan University, the British College of Policing and Greater Manchester Police among others, adding that all those memos included promoting the concepts of human rights.
