Israel rounds up dozens of E. Jerusalem Palestinians

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Israeli forces have detained dozens of Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem over the last two days, a Palestinian NGO said Wednesday.

"At least 38 Palestinians in East Jerusalem have been detained by the Israeli police and army over the last 48 hours," a lawyer with the Prisoners Support and Human Rights Association (Addameer) told The Anadolu Agency.

"Israeli forces detained five Palestinians on Wednesday morning," he said. "Another 18 were detained on Tuesday and another 15 on Monday."

Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East War. It annexed the holy city in 1980, claiming the entire city as the capital of the self-proclaimed Jewish state € a move never recognized by the international community.

Over 7,000 Palestinians are currently languishing in Israeli prisons, according to Palestine's Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs.
