Saudi- CFL bulbs are safe clarifies SASO
(MENAFN- Arab News) The Saudi Standards Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) said that the reported side effects of using compact fluorescent energy-saving lamps (CFL) have not been scientifically proved.
SASO made the comments recently following reports on social media that such lamps could cause physical damage to consumers as they contain mercury.
According to a medical study mercury exposure at high levels can harm the brain heart kidney lungs and the immune system.
In a statement SASO said the products being used and traded in the Saudi market are the same as those that are manufactured and used in all global markets.
They are produced in accordance with standard specifications the statement said adding that this announcement came about due to concerns raised by social media outlets.
