Don Bosco Oratory lift prestigious GOA Rolling Trophy

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY Feb 22: The reigning champions Don Bosco Oratory made sure the GOA Rolling Trophy remained in their possession with a clinical performance to outclass Malabar United 4-0 in the final of the 21st edition of this prestigious tournament played last Friday at the Al- Bayan grounds under the auspices of KIFF. Malabar who had barely scraped through to the final after their extra time victory over Goa Maroons a week earlier seemed overawed with the occasion and barring a few sporadic attacks led by Prince and Younis they lacked the conviction to attack the opponents'' goal. Don Bosco Oratory on the other hand boasting a host of talented youngsters like Jeffrey Akshay and Projot combined well and took the attack to the opponents.

The DBO defense was also well organized with Godfrey Roshan and Conrad not letting the opponents any space to play their game. The first goal came as early as the 12th minute when medio Loyed Mascarenhas'' low drive from just outside the penalty area found the far left corner of the Malabar goal setting off ''fireworks'' in the DBO camp.

Agnel Quadros was on hand to deflect the second goal when a harmless cross was not dealt with by the tardy Malabar defense making it 2-0 before half time. After the change of ends DBO kept up the pressure and Loyed who is wellknown as a free kick specialist made no mistake to convert after he was brought down just outside the penalty area giving the Malabar goalkeeper no chance. Loyed went on to complete his hat-trick when he scored from the penalty spot towards the end of the game to end the game 4-0 in favor of DBO.

The match was officiated by IFRA referee Francis Fernandes assisted on the lines by Jan and Vincy. In his brief address the GOA President Raymond D''Sa thanked the invitees KIFF President and Managing Committee affiliate members and the GOA committee members for their support in making the tournament and final a grand success. He also thanked Derrick Gomendes and Leo Fernandes for their financial support to organize the tournament.

The referee gifts were given away by Derrick Gomendes the runner-up trophies by Leo Fernandes the Runners-Up trophy by KIFF President B M Viegas and the winning goal of the tournament award was given away by Ahmed Al Sayak (Abu Abdulla) the manager of Bayan ground to Loyed Mascarenhas. He also picked up the Man of the Match award and the honor was done by Zinia Cardoso. The winners'' individual trophies were given away by Mrs Erin Pereira and the Winner''s trophy and Rolling Trophy was collected by Godfrey Aguier of Don Bosco Oratory from the hands of Raymond D''Sa.
