JAKARTA March 17 2015–PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk. through its subsidiary PT Medco Power Indonesia will build a gas power plant (PLTG) with a capacity of 2x800 megawatts (MW) which is part of the Indonesia government's 35000 MW project.
President Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MedcoEnergi Lukman Mahfoedz said the company will be actively involved in the construction of power plants in Indonesia.
MedcoEnergi will build a power plant with a total capacity of 2x800 MW which is part of the ambition from Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla’s administration to develop the 35000 MW project for five years.
“We are currently active in power project. We want to contribute in the 35000 MW project” he said Monday (3/16).
According to him MedcoEnergi will not work alone. It will invite other partners to build the project. However Lukman was reluctant to disclose the location of the planned power plant.
He said the construction of the power plant is not the company’s first experience. Currently MedcoEnergi is supplying 65% of electricity needs in Batam Riau Islands.
Moreover MedcoEnergi has been working in power plant business in Java and Bali for ten years. It operates power plant in Java and Bali with a total capacity of 2x660 MW.
In November 2014 Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) inaugurated a project to add a 21 MW chiller and a 6 MW combined cycle in Panaran PLTG in Batam. This power plant is managed by PT Mitra Energi Batam (MEB) a subsidiary of Medco Power Indonesia.
MEB PLTG I and II have an initial capacity of 56 MW. After the expansion the total capacity reached 84 MW. As reported earlier Medco owns power plant business in ten locations in Sumatra Java and Sulawesi.
Five power plants are located in Sumatra three are existed in Java and two are located in Sulawesi. Most of them are gas-powered plants. Read more..
