US judge blocks Citi handling of Argentina debt payments

(MENAFN- AFP) A US judge on Thursday blocked Citigroup from handling payments on some of Argentina's bonds amid a legal battle that has put the country into default.

Judge Thomas Griesa of the district federal court in New York rejected the US bank's request to process the payments, saying they would violate his ruling that Argentina must first pay off so-called "holdout" hedge funds before it can pay a certain class of creditors.
