Huge drug hauls seized, dozens arrested, PSD


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) A total of 342,000 narcotic pills, 12 kg of Hashish were seized along with seven firearms in a crackdown that also saw the arrest of 22 people for drug-related offenses in several regions in the Kingdom, according to a statement issued Sunday by the Anti-Narcotics Department.

The Public Security Department (PSD) said in a statement that the Anti-Narcotics team "accomplished its mission by launching intensive campaigns against drug dealers and druggies across the Kingdom".

"The most prominent haul was made when the team broke into a drug house in Amman and arrested two people red-handed in the promotion of narcotics. The action led to the arrest of four druggies, and a search of the house yielded two 2 kg of Hashish and 8,000 narcotic pills.

Two hand guns and three pump-action guns in addition to an automatic weapon were also found, the PSD's media center statement added.

In a similar raid in Amman, the team stormed another house and arrested two drug dealers as well as eight other people, who were buying the contraband. A search of the house led to the discovery of five kg of Hashish, 10,000 drug pills and a gun.

The media center indicated that another two houses were raided in the Zarqa governorate, where detectives found about 284,000 pills and arrested the owner. They found 8,000 pills in the second house, too.

In the Irbid governorate, three people were arrested while buying and selling narcotic pills and found 22,000 pills.

Also, in Mafraq city, Anti-Narcotics personnel confiscated five kg of Hashish and 10,000 pills after they raided a drug runner's house.
