(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced that he is in favour of a handsome 30 per cent pay hike for the state's policemen.
"I have decided that I want to increase the salary of all policemen by 30 per cent as an incentive," Fadnavis said. He was speaking at the Maharashtra Police Academy (MPA) in Nashik where he was the guest of honour for the passing out parade of the 111th batch of cadet police sub inspectors.
In his seven-minute speech, Fadnavis also said that with the rising number of white collar, cyber and economic offences, an additional police training school in Jalgaon's Varangaon area would be opened soon.
"Times are changing and with technology we can defeat them (the enemy) and always be one step ahead of them if we are equipped. We have to equip ourselves and this would be a key platform for training," Fadnavis added.
The chief minister also expressed his concern regarding accommodation facilities at the MPA, and said that more housing would be provided soon to support the large volume of students.
Director General of Maharashtra Police Sanjeev Dayal and Additional Director General of Police Dr Venkatesham were also present at the event. Director of MPA Naval Bajaj delivered the oath of duty to the cadets. 542 cadets from the Maharashtra Police Academy in Nashik have now passed out of the institute to work as sub inspectors (PSI).
"The cadets undergo nearly a year long rigorous training, which includes classroom and field training at the MPA. The cadets study subjects such as behavioral sciences, criminology, law, information and modern technology in crime detection, as well as field training including rifle and revolver shooting, PT, etc," police said.
