NCB busts internet firm in Surat smuggling psychotropic drugs abroad


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Narcotics Control Bureau in Gujarat on Monday late in the night busted an internet pharmacy firm based in Surat and apprehended five persons in the operation. The NCB sleuths also seized psychotropic substance worth over Rs 100 crore which were supposed to be sent to the US and several European countries.

According to NCB zonal director Hariom Gandhi, at least five fake firms were created by the suspects who were sending the consignment abroad in forged addresses and names but with the help of consignment tracking system the receiver used to identify the consignment. Gandhi said with further investigation a clear picture of the gang's modus operandi will be explained.

Gandhi said that approximately 400 kg tablets have been seized that consists of nearly 11 lakh tablets, out of which 50,000 to 60,000 tablets fall in the category of psychotropic drugs. Gandhi said that the people involved in the racket were using courier firms to export drugs without doctor's prescription.

Officials refuse to reveal the identity of the firm and the people involved in the racket but said that all the five main persons including the mastermind have been named from a location in Varachcha area in Surat that is also known for diamond markets.
