NATO chief expresses sadness over air accident in Spain

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg Monday expressed his "deep sadness" over the crash of a Greek fighter jet at the Los Llanos base in Spain, which has caused many casualties.

The plane was taking part in an exercise in the framework of NATO's Tactical Leadership Program, which aims to improve multinational cooperation in air operations.

The Greek F-16 fighter jet crashed into other planes on the ground just few moments after taking off during the NATO training in Los Llanos Air Base in Albacete, Spain, killing 10 people and injuring 13 others as a result, Spanish Defense Ministry stated earlier today.

Around 750 participants, including pilots and maintenance workers, were taking part in the NATO's program when the accident occurred, among which 50 participants are from NATO's 10 member countries, the ministry said, noting that seven of the injured have been reported in critical condition.
