NATO brands Putin jibe about Ukraine foreign legion 'nonsense'
(MENAFN- The Peninsula) NATO head Jens Stoltenberg dismissed as "nonsense" charges by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday that the Ukrainian army was simply the Western alliance's "foreign legion" whose main duty was to contain Russia.
"The statement that there is a NATO legion in Ukraine is nonsense. There is no NATO legion, the foreign forces in Ukraine are Russian," Stoltenberg told a press conference after a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission called to discuss the latest upsurge in fighting.
