Turkey parliament speaker opens PUIC meeting, Kuwaiti MPs attending


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkey's Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek inaugurated the preparatory meeting of the 33th session of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUIC) here on Saturday.

In a keynote speech at the meeting, Cicek said the event was of paramount significance as it came at a critical time in the entire region, especially following recent "terrorist" attacks in some countries.

Cicek said terrorism constitutes a "crime against humanity" so it should be fought by all means.

The gathering is scheduled to mainly discuss a memo of understanding on cooperation among the PUIC member states, reports compiled by permanent specialized committees and regulatory matters and subjects.

Kuwaiti MPs Faisal Al-Shaya and Saif Al-Azmi arrived here earlier in the day to attend the PUIC executive committee meeting, while National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim is expected to turn up here on Monday to lead his country's delegation participating in the event that lasts until January 22.

The Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUIC) was established in 1999 and is basked in Tehran, Iran.

The union mainly aims to promote Islamic teachings and discuss cultural, social and political issues that concern member states.
