Indian ship Vijit visits Oman to mark 60 years of diplomatic ties


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of Indo-Oman relations the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Vijit docked at Port Sultan Qaboos on Monday.

The Indian Embassy in Muscat has planned a series of events throughout the year to mark the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Addressing the gathering on board ICGS Vijit H E J S Mukul Indian Ambassador to Oman said 'This year marks the 60th anniversary of India-Oman diplomatic ties and we have lined up a series of events to celebrate the occasion. We are happy to start the celebrations with the visit of ICGS Vijit. India and Oman share a very cordial relationship in defence and there is an MoU on joint exercise and anti-piracy operations.'

In 2013 ICGS Samudra Prahari had visited Oman. 'We have planned exchange visits with the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard (ROPCG). Both coast guards will exchange best practices discuss means to enhance bilateral cooperation and conduct joint military exercises over a period of time.'

ICGS Vijit has 100 crew and 19 officers on board and will be in the sultanate till Wednesday. The ship reached Oman after visiting Qatar Bahrain and Dubai.

Deputy Inspector General Rakesh Pal commanding officer of the ship said 'Omani defence officials regularly visit India and discuss best military practices. The ship was earlier deployed to protect India's Exclusive Economic Zone and perform other duties as enshrined in the Coast Guard Charter.' 

ICGS Vijit is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and systems advanced navigation and communications equipment and sensors.
