Saudi- Survival of the bravest

(MENAFN- Arab News) This is with reference to the report 'Driver-monitoring camera to ensure safe journey' (Dec. 28). It is welcome news but it is difficult to ensure one's safety because chances remain that despite taking all precaution a reckless driver can hit a camera-installed vehicle.

For example everyone knows how difficult it is especially these days to drive through Salahudin Al- Ayoubi Road in Riyadh with all the diversions concrete blockades and traffic gridlocks but even in this situation a thrill-seeking driver tried his prank in his brand new racing car and crashed into two highly disciplined motorists. I was a witness to this incident and had a close shave. The entire road was totally blocked for traffic soon after this silly stunt. I sadly failed to see any remorse on the face of the thrill-seeker who had created that mess.

I urge the authorities to install such cameras across all main streets so as to monitor the behaviors of every driver. Road manners and traffic rules have become things of the past. We long for the good-old days when driving through these beautiful streets used to be a joyful experience. Driving in the Kingdom has nowadays become survival of the bravest. S.H. Moulana Riyadh
