Palestine parl't welcomes European recognition of independent state

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Palestine's Parliament Speaker Salim Al-Zanoun said Friday the recent recognitions by several European parliaments of the Palestinian people's right to statehood show that the Europeans got fed up with Israel's racist policies.

Al-Zanoun, commenting on recognitions by parliaments of Portugal, Ireland, Belgium's Walloon region and the French Senate, said that these are important steps in the right direction towards the establishment of the Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital and in keeping with the relevant UN resolutions.

These recognitions represent a unanimous condemnation of Israel's continued violations and disregard of all international legitimacy resolutions, Al-Zanoun said in a press statement.

He that the Israeli government persists in policies of settlement expansion, killing, and terrorizing, and pays no heed to requirements of peacemaking with the Palestinian people.

British, Spanish and Swedish parliaments as well as the French National Assembly have previously recognized the independent state of Palestine.
