(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Bahamas Police said Tuesday that a small plane has crashed in New Providence, killing an American man and injuring the other 10 people aboard.
Police Superintendent Paul Rolle said that the 10-seat Navajo Chieftain crashed after departing the nearby island of Eleuthera early Tuesday. He said that the other passengers are hospitalized.
Police have not yet identified the man who died, although they did say that he was 77 years old.
The plane was operated by Ferguson Air and was serving as a charter for Southern Air.
According to police, the pilot apparently alerted officials that he was having problems and tried getting the plane close to shallow water before it lost power roughly 170 meters from the coast.
