Lebanese PM in Brussels for talks with EU, Belgian leaders


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam arrived in Brussels Monday for talks with EU and Belgian leaders on bilateral relations and regional developments.

He met Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel and thanked Belgium for its contribution to the UN peace keeping forces UNIFIL and for the sacrifices made by the Belgian soldiers in Lebanon.

Salam told journalists after the meeting that they also discussed ways to boost bilateral relations between Belgium and Lebanon and talked about other regional issues.

Later in the evening he met the Lebanese community in Brussels and explained the situation in his country in particular about the burden of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees.

According to EU sources, Salam is expected to meet EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz on Tuesday.
