GCC 'Summit key to boosting unity'


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)  H M King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain yesterday met GCC Secretary-General Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, who is on a GCC tour.

King Hamad stressed the importance of the 35th GCC Summit on December 9-10 in Qatar, describing it as an opportunity to further strengthen the Arabian Gulf entity. He hoped that the summit will come up with resolutions and recommendations to GCC nationals' aspirations of further cooperation and complementarity.

He also voiced confidence that the summit would represent a turning point in the GCC march to serve the interests of member states and their peoples. He praised Dr Al Zayani, assistants and General Secretariat staff for their efforts to support the GCC march to ensure further achievements and bolster joint work. He paid tribute to GCC leaders for their resolve to push the GCC march forward, wishing Qatar success in hosting the summit.

Dr Al Zayani congratulated the King on the success of parliamentary and municipal elections. He also hailed efforts of the King and the government to push the democratic march forward and achieve the goals of the reform project. He underlined the importance of the GCC leaders' meeting, convened in Riyadh on November 16 at the invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia.
