(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Qatari Foreign Minister Dr. Khaled Al-Attiyah acclaimed the sincere efforts exerted by Kuwait under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah during the presidency of the previous GCC summit.
Al-Attiyah thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, who is also chairman of the ministerial council's previous session, for his tireless efforts and contributions to reaching positive and constructive decisions and recommendations that had a great impact on promoting GCC joint action and boosting GCC political and strategic status.
Al-Attiyah was speacking in an inaugural speech of the 133rd session of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), to prepare for the 35th GCC Summit, scheduled December 9-10.
Al-Attiyah wished that during the Qatari presidency the GCC will see further tangible achievements. He stressed that the coming summit would be of a special importance in light of the rapid developments in the region.
He expressed confidence that the Ministerial Council will contribute to the success of the summit and to strengthen GCC role in serving the interests of the Gulf peoples at the regional and international levels.
In his speech, GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani expressed hope that the GCC Summit would bring more achievements. He praised the efforts that have been made in the build-up to this meeting.
He also commended the role of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled for contributing along with the ministerial council in supporting the cooperation march on all fronts during his presidency of the previous session.
Al-Zayani highlighted the Riyadh meeting that Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz arranged, stressing that it was an indication of the GCC unity.
After the opening session, GCC foreign ministers continued their meeting behind closed doors.
