Captain cook on Dubai Creeks BBQ Donuts

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) We try out the Creek Yacht Clubs BBQ boats - where you have to cook your own food and pilot your own boat at the same time.

Pirates ship captains and budding chefs take note; the answer to all your culinary prayers is here. It’s rare to find a restaurant where you have to cook your own food.

But it’s even rarer that you have to pilot your own boat at the same time. And it is this hilarious combination that makes the BBQ Donuts at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club a must. Moored off the popular QD’s the BBQ Donuts look exactly as you’d imagine - a barbeque centred in the middle of a round craft and up to six passengers sat around it. There’s an umbrella suspended over the top for daytime dining.

You have the choice of taking along a driver who doubles up as a cook but we decided not to. I recommend it. From first-time sailors to seasoned pros the donuts are foolproof. The electric motor is powerful but not monstrous and steering the vessel is surprisingly easy given its less than hydrodynamic shape. Cooking on the other hand is another story. It’s barbequing after all but you should have some previous grilling experience to get the most out of it. Most people do so they will manage to cook up a feast. None of us did so we had a pleasant meal with some hits and misses.

What you get with your boat is a cooler full of fish shellfish and meat jacket potatoes salad soft drinks and a load of doughnuts and pastries for dessert. The fish went well. The beef steak…not so much. That was our fault though and didn’t detract from what was a highly enjoyable evening. With these cooler climes you’re able to spend hours out on the water and heading down for sunset is definitively worth it. We found an hour and half was sufficient bobbing around in the creek.

For any of you worried about safety an attendant will take your number and give you theirs before you cast off so there is always someone at the end of the line should you get into trouble. Given the extremely calm waters between the Floating Bridge and the Yacht Club though it’s highly unlikely any incident will come to pass.

So why not try something completely different. Head down to the club to not only sail but also cook up a storm.

The BBQ Donuts are operational from 12pm – 9pm and advance bookings are recommended.
