Malta's speaker to visit Kingdom
(MENAFN- Arab News) The speaker of the House of Representatives in Malta will be visiting the Kingdom between Nov. 23 and 25 to discuss ties between the two countries well as regional and international issues.
Maltese Ambassador Martin Valentino said that Speaker Angelo Farrugia will be leading a delegation that includes two members of Parliament a member of the Maltese government and a member of the opposition party.
Farrugia who has a doctorate in law was elected speaker of the House of Representatives on April 6 2013.
The delegation also includes the speaker's personal assistant and an adviser on international relations.
'The delegation will be coming on the invitation of Shoura Council President Abdullah Al-Asheikh. The visit has been overdue. The visit has been postponed repeatedly in the past' the Maltese envoy told Arab News.
Valentino said that since Malta and the Kingdom have a common stance on many international issues the two sides will likely discuss the Palestinian issue as well as the situation in Syria.
They are also expected to discuss bilateral ties and efforts to further increase collaboration across various fields including trade tourism and culture.
Valentino said that the invitation to the present Maltese Parliament to visit the Kingdom was initially extended last year by the Shoura Council chief.
Malta's total exports to Saudi Arabia are valued at 20.8 million euros annually. Half of the exports are food products. The island nation imports a total 16.3 million euros worth of goods per year the bulk of which is organic chemicals.
