UN envoy welcomes Yemen's new gov't
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UN Secretary General's Special Advisor on Yemen Jamal Benomer welcomed on Saturday the formation of a new government in Yemen as a crucial step towards the implementation of the National Peace and Partnership Agreement.
In a statement to the press at the end of his visit to the country, Benomer called on all political parties to fulfill their commitments under the agreement and offer all necessary support to the government, formed yesterday.
"The challenges facing Yemen require all Yemenis to deal with them with patriotic spirit and put the national interests above any partisan narrow interests," he said.
"In this visit which lasted for 15 days, we have discussed ways to speed up the implementation of the remaining provisions of the National Peace and Partnership Agreement.
"The talks with the Yemeni leaders focused on the preparations for public referendum on the new constitution and general elections," Benomer stressed. He voiced hope for the success of the newly-formed government in severing the interests of Yemen, renewing the UN commitment to help Yemen get out of its current crisis and overcome the challenges of the transitional stage.
