(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Foundation's Annual Research Conference (ARC '14) has seen a record 13 percent increase in scientific abstract submissions.
The two-day conference on November 18-19 at Qatar National Convention Centre will be held under the patronage of H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
It supports QF's mission to build Qatar's innovation and technology capacity through key sciences.
QF Research and Development's (QF R&D) Qatar National Research Fund undertook peer reviews for almost 1,200 abstracts. Evaluation was based on criteria, including research quality, originality and merit, relevance to Qatar and its grand challenges, including water, energy and cyber security and integrated healthcare.
The conference is the premier scientific research forum in Qatar, hosted by QF R&D.
Dr Nabeel Al Salem, (pictured), Executive Director, Outreach and Communications, QF R&D, said, "It is a source of pride to see record numbers of the science community submit research to be part of this year's conference.
"The conference provides a platform for local experts and QF R&D's key entities, in addition to international experts, to come together to find compelling solutions and technologies for the country's grand challenges.
"The submissions play an important part of ARC as part of multi-disciplinary knowledge sharing to contribute to Qatar's research agenda."
The conference follows on the success of ARC'13, attended by over 2,000 delegates and where Qatar's grand challenges were unveiled. Over 1,000 abstracts were received, of which nearly 450 were accepted for poster presentations. The authors of around 50 gave presentations on their research.
ARC'14 will include panel discussions, technical presentations and debates to share experiences and innovative approaches towards world-class research and innovation.
