(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Horses from the Royal Cavalry and Oman are set to compete at the world's richest race for Arabian horses in the 93rd Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at the Longchamp racecourse in Paris France from October 4-5.

The Qatar Arabian World Cup worth US$1.4mn is known to be the richest race for purebred Arabians as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe weekend is expected to bring together the most talented thoroughbreds and Arabian horses which have won last year's top international races.

The total prize money on offer is US$9.98mn for the weekend and much of it will be won on Sunday. A total of 31 horses have been nominated for the 2000m Qatar Arabian World Cup on October 5 a veritable check-list of the top four year old horses and above for the 2014 season.

Four Royal Cavalry horses - Djet Taouy Samima Vulcain Du Clos and Myra De Monlau - along with Raddad which is owned by Oman's Ahmed al Marzooqi will take part in the Qatar Arabian World Cup. Over two days there will be seven Group 1 races and four Group 2 races for thoroughbreds along with two Group 1 races for purebred Arabian horses.

The event will also feature two Omani jockeys with Asad al Siyabi astride Raddad and Al Mutassim al Balushi on a horse that is yet to be announced. Also Royal Cavalry's Al Karama Monlau and Melodie Du Soleil will compete in the Group 2 races on October 4.

Djet Taouy is one of the favourites at the Qatar Arabian World Cup having finished fourth last season to Sheikh Mansour al Nahyan-owned Mushrae which won the race.

The France-bred star has recently shown good form winning twice and finishing second in the three races it entered since May. Trained by Frenchman Jean-Francois Bernard Djet Taouy is expected to be ridden by French rider David Michaux.
